HOMELESS SHELTER

Fall 2017

The purpose of this studio was to design a homeless shelter mixed with a community program of our choice. The shelter is located in the tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco and must integrate the two programs of the site into one cohesive building.

The Community Program that I incorporated into my shelter is the Pop up resource village. It is a community outreach program run by architect Deanna Van Buren with collaboration from Five Keys Charter School. Its aim is to assist in the education, rehabilitation and reintegration of formerly incarcerated people. The resource village also aims to bring communities together by providing a variety of services in one place. My site will not only provide one of the temporary resource village locations, but will also be a new home for the bus design studio and a bus garage to assemble the mobile busses used at the village locations.
